LHP Mike Antonini (3-3, 4.54) vs. RHP Ryohei Tanaka (2-4, 4.24)
Game #38• Tuesday, May 18, 2010
NYSEG Stadium • Binghamton, NY • 6:35 p.m.
LAST GAME: The B-Mets losing streak extended to six games
Sunday afternoon with a 13-7 loss at Trenton, giving the Thunder
a four-game sweep of the series. Binghamton jumped out
to an early 4-1 lead thanks to a Nick Evans two-run homer, a
Jeremy Bleich wild pitch and a Hector Pellot sac fly. However,
Trenton rallied to score 12 of the next 15 runs in the game to
down the B-Mets. Brandon Laird was the major culprit for the
Thunder. The Trenton third baseman roped three hits, including
a pair of homers, and drove in a game-high seven runs.
Scott Shaw was charged with his second straight loss after
permitting seven runs in 4.1 innings. Evans was the only
member of the starting lineup with two hits, a homer and a
single. He also drove in a team-high three runs. Bleich
notched his third win despite allowing six runs in five-plus
innings of work.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mike Antonini will take
the ball for the B-Mets tonight. He gave up five runs over 5.2
innings in a loss at Portland May 12. The lefty, however, only
allowed six hits and struck out five without issuing a walk.
Antonini has gone 5.2 innings or better in five straight starts.
For the year, he is 3-3 with a 4.54 ERA in seven starts covering
39.2 innings. Antonini went 7-5 with a 5.32 ERA over 25
appearances, 20 starts, spanning 115 innings last year with
Binghamton. He was the Mets 18th round choice in the June
2007 draft out of Georgia College & State University.
RHP Ryohei Tanaka is slated to start tonight for the Baysox
and will attempt to break a personal, four-game losing streak.
In his last start, he tied a season-worst with five runs allowed
over 5.2 innings in a losing effort versus Richmond May 12.
The Japanese righty is 2-4 with a 4.24 ERA over 40.1 innings
in 2010. He appeared in 21 games, 12 of which were starts,
last season for Bowie and recorded a 4-4 mark with a 3.00
ERA over 75 innings. Tanaka was signed out of Japan by the
Orioles April 29, 2009.
