Picks 4-6: Kevin Gausman, Kyle Zimmer, Albert Almora

Baltimore Orioles- Pick 4: Kevin Gausman- RHP- LSU Tigers

I have been saying Gausman (who wrote for Mack's Mets and interviewed with us months ago) would go to the Orioles as it makes a lot of sense and give the O's one of the best minor league 1-2 punches with Dylan Bundy.

I like Gausman a lot (he throws a one-seam fastball...how cool is that?) and he has a higher upside, in my mind, than Appel. While I could have seen them taking Appel, they stick with the guy they have had atop of their draft chart for weeks (if not months).

I am starting to wonder where Appel is going to end up going.

Kansas City Royals- Pick 5: Kyle Zimmer- RHP- University of San Francisco Dons

Aw man I was just starting to hope that Zimmer would somehow fall out of the top-10. Teams had concerns over his late-season fade and hamstring injury but my guess is that the Royals have been in on Zimmer for a while now.

I like Zimmer a lot. He has only been a starting pitcher full time for two years and already throws in the high-90s with four pitches. Royals get a great pick here (and, surprisingly, pass on Appel. Who would have thought Appel would fall to 6 or later?)

Chicago Cubs- Pick 6: Albert Almora- Mater Academy High School, FL.

I was also hoping Almora would somehow fall to the Mets but that was never going to happen. Almora is a great kid with a great story. The Cubs have been in on him for a while so this pick does not surprise me. Great pick under the new regime.

What this means for the Mets: This is interesting. Very interesting to see Appel fall like this. While none of these players were supposed to fall to the Mets, this gives you an indication that you can throw the book out at this point. An A+ prospect WILL be available for the Mets selection at #12. Stay tuned.

From David: While Stephen, Mack and I have all been pulling for a top quality bat for the Mets at #12, it looks like we are really going to have a TOP pitching prospect to choose from which, with pitching still at a premium AND the arms available all looking like #1-3 starters, makes for a very interesting draft indeed. WE LOVE THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CRUD- The Padres got Max Fried- oh well...

He won't fall past the A's. But we will have a shot at Giolito, Hawkins, McCullers, etc...

Unless C-Hawk is taken in the next two picks, it is going to be him.

Still on the board: Three GREAT righties: Giolito, McCullers, Stroman
