July 7th 2015 -- Giants 3, Mets 0

Tuesday night in San Francisco, Matt Cain made a triumphant return to the City by the bay as he combined with 4 pitchers out of the bullpen to blank the Mets 3-0.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and fell behind on a RBI fielder’s choice by Hunter Pence and a sac-fly by Brandon Crawford in the 3rd to make it 2-0 Giants. In the 5th an RBI single by Pence brought home Joe Panik to make it 3-0 and cap the scoring. Colon lasted 6 innings allowing 10 hits 3 runs (2 earned) while striking out 4.  Colon gets the loss falling to 9-7.  Cain went 6 innings allowing just 2 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7 improving to 1-1. Santiago Casilla pitched the 9th for his 21st save as the Giants snapped their 7 game losing streak. The Mets only managed 4 hits on the day, 2 doubles by Kevin Plawecki, one by John Mayberry Jr. and a triple by Curtis Granderson.  In the 6th inning Granderson led off with a triple. Ruben Tejada then hit a flair to short right that Pence make a tumbling catch on…but he recovered and pegged out Granderson trying to tag up. Carlos Torres and Alex Torres each tossed scoreless innings in relief. Carlos struck out the side in the 7th. With the loss the Mets drop to 43-42 on the year. They are now 3-2 on this road trip and are 14-28 on the road. The Nationals lost on Tuesday. The Mets stay 3 1/2 games back in 2nd place in the NL east. Wednesday Afternoon at 3:45 pm est it’s the rubber game of this series. All Star Jacob deGrom (8-6 2.30) goes for series win for the Mets, Jake Peavy (0-3 6.43) goes for the Giants.
