Mack Stuff - Tommy Manzella, Ichiro Suzuki, Ryan Dempster, Ty Wigginton, Kevin Youkilis

Tommy Manzella

  • sign SS Tommy Manzella to minor-league contract with major-league invite to spring training.

Manzella was given every opportunity to be the starting shortstop in Houston, beginning in 2010. 258 at bats later, he was hitting .225/.267/.264.531 and that dream was over. He was DFA'd in August 2011. Since then, he has bounced around in the systems of Arizona, Milwaukee, and the White Sox.

Ichiro Suzuki

  • This was a one-year deal that was turned into two after the Phillies bid the deal up. In addition, two teams have offered Suzuki more than the $13mil the Yankees will pay up for two years, but he likes playing for New York and will chose this deal instead. Good for both the Yankees and the player. Suzuki is good for the Asian population in the city and is supposedly one of the great interviews in the business.

Ryan Dempster

  • Well, there goes another SP off the market. I guess no one is comfortable with a knuckler, even though Boston's main goal in adding a new SP was to find an innings eater. It's a 2-yr., $26.5mil deal... Dempster is 35-years old...  sound familiar? I guess te Mets will have to look for their catcher elsewhere.

Ty Wigginton

  • Signs a 2-year deal with St. Louis to be one of their utility infielders. 2012:  .235/.314/.375, 11-HR... 35-yrs old... no reports of dollars yet.

Kevin Youkilis

  • THE YANKEE DEAL IS INKED... one year, $12mil for someone that will hit, like, .100... amazing... actually turned down 2-yrs, $18mil from Cleveland... and who says baseball isn't a business.
