At this rate our $50M of payroll flexibility in 2014 will get us an average OF, a crappy relief pitcher, and a new collar for Buddy Alderson.

So the Indians can pony up $14 million per season for an outfielder but Cody Ross is too rich for the Mets' blood?

Who's finishing 4th -- Marlins or Mets?

Question: Next year I'd like the Mets to sign Choo, Ellsbury or Pence. Are all three of these guys looking at Jason Werth type contracts? I think all of them are better than Swisher.

I want no part of this craziness this off-season.

Take what money you have and add one ++ relief pitcher... then sign Hairston and be done with this...

we can revisit this process next year when the team has the money to compete from day one

What relief pitcher do you have in mind Mack?

I kind of like the idea of Brian Wilson. There's a guy who will likely take a one year incentive laden deal to re-establish himself. And it won't cost a draft pick.

Let's see how long Swisher's wife stays with him- she's an actress and just lost her show, so she's looking for work and was desperate for Nick to hook up with one of the NY or LA teams. Although she now has $70 more million reasons to stay around...it's truly insane, but none of these contracts so far are worse than Werths'!!

I don't question love but Nicks made a lot more money then her so she better stay put.

I'm with Mack here...

I save the cash; either roll it over to next season or invest highly into the draft this year. Go and pick five guys who probably were going to head to college and give them over slot with the first five picks. Make this team so prospect rich that in four years free agency will be for suckers.

Listen, the Wilpons won't have huge money to burn for another five or six years. The Liriano and Ross deals have turned this market into a complete bust for the Mets. It makes the Wright deal look really good in comparison.

I love the idea of a one year deal with Wilson + a 2nd year team option...

nothing makes anymore sense this year...

walk away and develop from within...

you don't have to lick your wounds after "signing" Wright, d'A, and Synda... this was a good off-season for the Mets

Damn right but here's the thing...

I really believe the Wilpons refuse to let Sandy publicly say they're rebuilding for fear of losing more fans at the gate. Knowing this they'll waste upwards of 5/10 million on players that will only make the draft position worse.

I do love the idea of signing Wilson and wouldn't mind if they gave him a contract like RA had before he left. 2 yrs for 7 mill with a 10 mill team option. Give him 2.5 this yr, 5 mill next and then wait and see how it works. He'd be a great guy to step in and help fans forget RA. Someone with a great persona and expierience closing big games.

Although, with Mejia, Familia, Parnell, Edgin, Carson, Leathersich, and Hefner....Wilson, if he bounces back and becomes a for e again, he'll have a great contract that could easily bring back a great prospect at any point in the next two years.

there's a lot of young talent in the Mets pen.... but, they need a Pedro Feliciano type workhorse that would be the first one in...

Feliciano is out there and about what they are willing to get given the tightness of the purse strings.
