MACK - NOLAN McLEAN

NOLAN MCLEAN IS THE KING OF QUEENS

Thomas Nestico         @TJStats

Nolan McLean, take a bow!

McLean continued the torrid start to his career with 8.0 scoreless against the Phillies with just 4 H and 6 K. He filled the zone with his incredible stuff and batters couldn't keep up

He now owns a 0.89 ERA across 3 starts

"All I can say is, ‘Wow.'"

Nolan McLean etched his name into the #Mets record books with his latest dominant start:

The Mets are searching for what their rotation will be down the stretch and in the postseason. And McLean more and more appears part of the solution.

Nolan McLean against the Mets' two biggest rivals:

@ ATL: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO, W

vs. PHI: 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO, W

“That was an airbender. I’ve seen sinkers like that, but that one was kind of at me for a long time.”

Until it wasn’t.

Behold, the magic of Nolan McLean. With the offense clicking and McLean presenting hope for the pitching staff, the Mets are different:

MACK -

I can’t come up with a superlative that isn’t being used to describe what Nolan McLean is doing right now.

It’s not just the 3-0 record in three major league starts…

Or the 0.89-ERA, 0.69-WHIP…

Or the fact he hasn’t issued one walk yet (20.1-IP) as a major league pitcher

He already has a 1.1-WAR!!! Who does this???

And, in his words, he’s about to be joined Friday night by someone he classifies as a BETTER PITCHER… Jonah Tong.

Wanna hear something exciting? The Mets have 29 games left and are only four out of the division lead and five loses ahead of the closest Wild Card rival. Hell, they are even two games back from catching San Diego for the 2nd Wild Card slot. But the real exciting thing is McLain and Tong are going to start a good percentage of those 29 games. That’s nine or 10 of these 29 games left!

Every baseball writer on this planet has gotten up early this morning… like me… to write about Nolan. Even the guys in Philadelphia are tearing the ass off their manager who said they “battled back” last night, and, “hey, that kid was good”. Where in Sam Blazes is scoring no runs battling back?

Folks… we may have a new ace now, who said post-game that Friday there will be a better pitcher on the Mets mound. Think about that.

It is mind-boggling, frankly. Seaver-Koosman II?

I’m glad we didn’t trade him
McLean for Zac Gallen like all the geniuses at espn predicted we would. Shocking because they’re never wrong lol

McLean’s pitches just look different. All that movement and zero walks in 20+ innings? It’s early for sure, but I agree with Mack. We have an ace. And if Tong comes as advertised, or even close, we might even have a top-flight rotation.
