AMAZING THAT THE NY AREA HAD BOTH DR J AND DOC GOODEN
As the Mets seek to reorient the S.S. Mets malfunctioning cruise liner, and many of us have questions, like how could this team have had a 7 game winning streak while going 18-28 in their last 46 games, meaning they are a bewildering 11-28 in the other 39 of those 46 games besides the 7 game win streak.
I have a Soto question or two:
1. Juan Soto had a great BABIP of .330 his first 4 seasons, but just .265 since. Huge difference. I wonder why. Shifting on him better? Not beating out hits that he used to beat out?
Thoughts?
2. Should Juan Soto say, “screw leading the league in walks, I am going to be much more aggressive hitting vs. walking?” The Mets lineup clearly is lacking thunder - Juan’s many walks are not causing the lineup to ignite, nor engender opponents’ fear of the Mets lineup.
Thoughts?
Lots of walks by Juan seems like “I’m doing my job, my share.” Being more aggressive to hit the ball in, say, 30% - 50% of those walk situations instead?
Would that be more like when I watched Dr J as a New York Net in his final ABA season? Aside from the Doctor, the Nets were badly outclassed by the highly talented Nuggets in the finals. Dr J, though, put the Nets on his shoulders and flat-out refused to let his team fail.
He averaged 38 points and 14 boards per game while being triple-teamed, one of whom was multiple defensive player of the year Bobby Jones. The greatest individual series by a player that I have ever seen. Nothing else would have sufficed.
Can Soto do that? Be extraordinary, not just good?
This team needs an extraordinary lift.

If Soto is not extraordinary, we are screwed gentleman.
Me? I’d like to see Soto take less, hammer more. I say that to the entire team. Screw walks. HIT! The Mets are in the top 3 in getting on base via walks and HBPs. But 15th in runs scored. HAMMER HAMMER HAMMER.
And he is, but see my comment …. I’d rather the Mets be 15th in walks/HBPs, and 3rd in runs, rather than 3rd in walks/HBPs, and 15th in runs.
Its not just Soto but the majority of the line-up takes way to many strikes right down the middle. It is easy for the opposing pitcher to get ahead because he knows that the Mets batter will be taking the first pitch ,so he groves a fast-ball down the middle. This team is just not aggresive enough with a bat in their hands. For this I question their approach and then I question the hitting coach .
Les, I’ve been preaching that all season. If you are going to miss the playoffs, do it swinging aggressively.
Amen!
And amen!
Leaving Milwaukee game - brutal…
Eyelash loss. They can’t hit.
