Tom Brennan is NOT A Fan of Mets’ Parks’ Dimensions! And Dismal Mets

TOUGH TO HIT BALLS OUT OF CAVERNOUS CANYONS

“One-dimensional Tom” is at it again.

When I hate it, I gotta say it.

They should hang signs out in front of some Mets parks that say, “grossly unfair to hitters“.

I was thinking about Mr. 75 RBI, Ryan Clifford, who I have often been finding myself to be a little low on praise for, and who led the Eastern League by several HRs, with his 24.

Not a really big number….24.

Likely, many of his AA competitors had already been promoted, which he had not been, until Sunday night, but I did not research that.

But I often think:

“It is just so very good to get out of the “hellish-for-hitters” Cyclones Park, and get to a normal hitters’ park in Binghamton.”

Not so, however, at least statistically speaking.

Numbers can and do speak, even scream, you know. What do they scream?

“Binghamton’s park sucks for hitters, too.”

The Binghamton Boys at home hit just .211 in 2024 and .239 in 2025.

On the road, though, a much higher .239 and .259 over the same periods.

Huge differential. Unconscionable, frankly.

You are supposed to have a park where you hit better at home, not 25 points worse.

Home runs?

From 2023 through 2025 to date through Saturday, 192 Binghamton HRs on the road, but just 131 HRs at home.

Egads! Gadzooks! Almost 50% more HRs on the road!

That, simply put, is FUBAR, fellas. It screams:

“HOME FIELD HITTER DISADVANTAGE!”

They may win as many, or perhaps even more games at home, with the park as is, and Rumble Ponies have a sensational win-loss record in 2025, but no matter the win/loss result, the home hitters are being abused, relatively speaking.

WHY DO THE TWO HOME PARKS BELOW AAA SUCK FOR METS HITTERS?

(The Syracuse park is showing a clear HR advantage to hitters in 2025, which is good to see.  It seems to be fair to the Home Boys).

Citi Field?  Need I repeat myself?

Make it 5-7 feet closer, 8 feet in CF. Give your star hitters STAR STATS.

Or just keep neutering your hitters. Like Soto, Pete, and Frankie over the past 2 months.

Citi Field dimensions are still too large while, Uncle Steve, seating capacity is too small.

Anyway…

Come ON, David and Steve, at least fix the darned parks’ fences problem.

Move the fences in, in both Brooklyn and Binghamton, for starters.

Then in Citi, too.

Be kinder to your minors hitters. Give them hitter-neutral parks.

Back to Clifford.  He has hit 41 HRs in 201 AA games. That is a lot.

But in 2024 and 2025, in Brooklyn for a while, but mostly in Binghamton, he has over nearly two full seasons hit….

A WHOPPING FIFTY POINTS HIGHER ON THE ROAD!

Would that be 50 HRs if Binghamton had an average hitters park? Likely.

And would he, if stationed in 2024 and 2025 in average-hitter-difficulty fields, be looked at as a much more dangerous hitter with more power and a much higher average? Likely.

When you are driving past Citi Field, and you look in your side-view mirror, is that Clifford object closer than it appears?  It may well be.

So…gentlemen…there is apparently a huge field dimensions problem.

What to do?

Fix it. Pronto.

BACK TO THE UNWATCHABLE METS:

FRIDAY NIGHT?

Mets sadly lose by eyelash, 3-2, on a brilliant defensive play to negate 2 two out hits (which constituted 40% of their Friday paltry hit total.)

The downward spiral intensifies.

On Saturday and Sunday, Mets leads were overtaken in two more losses.

The Mets Starship is rapidly re-entering Earth’s upper atmosphere in a spiraling downward trajectory, now visible to the naked eye, with a malfunctioning heat shield. Uh-oh.

My brother Steve told me to post this:

“Tell the masses that I am done. I can’t be more disappointed.”

I asked my brother, “should I also tell our readers I myself haven’t watched any games, lately?  Who, after all, watches softy losers?”

He said, “yeah, the Mets need to hear that message.  Tell them.”

So, I’ve told you.

He asked me to add, “Tell them that I have put up with good and bad, but mostly disappointing losing, for 52 years.”

And so have I.

But I am 14 years older than brother Steve.  He was born just as Seaver had almost completed his 1967 rookie of the year season.

On September 1, to be precise, which made my brother a true September call-up.

For me, it is not 52 years of disappointing losing.

It is 64 LONG years. 1962 through 2025.

Maybe I’ll just read my Bible more. Sing more.

And just tune in in September if they are winning the playoff race, an all-too-infrequent occurrence. Become a casual fan. Why not?

BUT WAIT….ATLANTA IS COMING IN

The Braves are like depleted uranium.

No Acuna, no Riley, no Schwellenbach, no Holmes, no Sale.

And Horrid Jarred Kelenic, another Mets busted first round pick at #6 overall, is hitting a dreadful .214 in 304 AAA at bats, with a mere 4 HRs, after hitting an eyes-wide-shut .167 with the Braves early in the season pre-demotion, and appearing all washed up at age 26.

Yes, indeed, Mets are facing a heavily damaged Braves team this week.

Can the Mets rebound from their simply awful last 2 months?

Bail out the sinking ship? What will it be….

Playoffs, or bust?

Mack spoke with Jayne Mansfield, and she predicts BUST.

I hope you keep your word. Life will be happier.

Gus, I plan to. Got to preach for 10 minutes on Sunday. Actually 9 minutes, 32 seconds. As I finished, I told the pastor I reserve my remaining time. LOL

Mack,
Article on SNY regarding Munetaka Murakami, a 1st/ 3rd baseman with the Yakult Swallows who may be a posted free agent in 2026. Is he legit? Are the Mets in a position to pursue him? Is he someone you might do a deep dive on? The readers need some positive news to digest with all the negative vibes over the past few weeks.

By the way, over thirty seconds and we round up: ten minutes!

Tom I agree with a Hitter Neutral Park. I dont want a band box but a fair park and a Home field advantage.
So i would agree with a 5 foot reduction... but I dont understand Brooklyn and Binghamton?
The stats show poor hitter parks when they are suppose to build confidence and increase value of their prospects...
how is possible that management do not acknowledge this and fix this

Mack,
Unable to send the article, not sure what I did wrong. The article is on the SNY Mets blog today. Sorry, I tried.

Imagine a hitter like Ryan Clifford playing in Vegas if the Mets' Triple-A team was still there (not that I miss it there)

Also, the Braves would love nothing more than to play spoilers for the Mets this week. I have my concerns going into this series.

Tom Brennan said...

Eddie, I keep repeating it. I guess management doesn’t care? I know I would.

Steve, the Braves spoil things for the Mets more than a busted fridge in a heat wave spoils milk. If the Mets do well, I will be pleasantly shocked.

I would just like to gauge Clifford’s true talent in hitter-neutral parks. He hit nearly .300 in 2023 in the Astros chain before the Mets got him. Far lower since. Why? Crap hitting parks, which completely distort Clifford’s normalized stats, and I believe have stunted his growth.

Gus, I may have to alter my Thursday article a tad, then. 🤔

The other side of the coin: When you make it easy to hit home runs, everyone wants to hit them all the time. Swings turn into uppercuts, and smart pitchers exploit this by pitching up in the zone, racking up strikeouts. The current team has been exploited by throwing fastballs they can't hit. Don't want more of that!
