Lots of news from Day 1
  • New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez will be out of commission for the next 4-6 months as he goes under the knife for a torn labrum in his left hip. Joel Sherman Twitter
  • The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed C Eli Whiteside off of waivers which gives the Jays an even more crowded back-stop. Ken Rosenthal Twitter
  • The agent for SP Zack Grienke expects to have his client signed before the end of the meetings this week. Jon Heyman Twitter
  • The Washington Nationals have re-signed SP Zach Duke and added RP Bill Bray Amanda Comak Twitter and Adam Kilgore Twitter
  • The San Francisco Giants have re-signed CF Angel Pagan to a 4 yr/$40MM deal Andrew Baggerly Twitter
  • The New York Mets are said to be interested in IF Cesar Izturis Adam Rubin ESPN
  • Another big name RP is off the board as the Texas Rangers have signed Joakim Soria to a 2 yr/$8MM deal. Ken Rosenthal Twitter
  • The Rangers have also nabbed C Geovany Soto off the market re-signing him to a 1 yr/$2.75MM deal that could go to $3MM with incentives. Jeff Wilson Twitter
  • The Detroit Tigers were said to have offered a 2 yr deal to OF Scott Hairston but the reports were quickly refuted by the team's General Manage. Free Press Tigers Twitter
  • RP Roberto Hernandez (aka Fausto Carmona) is on the market and is looking for a 1 yr deal to re-establish his talent and credibility. Jesse Sanchez MLB.com RP Pedro Feliciano is also on the market as he pitches in the Puerto Rican Winter Leagues. Jon Morosi Twitter
  • According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia, a re-union between CF Shane Victorino and the Philadelphia Phillies is unlikely. The free-agent is said to have multiple 3 yr deals on the table and even one 4 yr deal.
  • Now for the big news talks between teams and the Mets for SP RA Dickey are really heating up with the Arizona D'backs, Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers, the Jays, and 4 other teams having already discussed possibilities with the Mets brass. According to Andy Martino the Mets asking price is "Extremely High" and the names Xander Boegarts and Jackie Bradley Jr were thrown out from the Red Sox.
