50 Shades of Orange and Blue – The Annual
September Swoon
By: Mack Ade
I’m moving on.
We know that it is politically
incorrect for Sandy and Company to announce that the 2012 season is ka-ka, and
that the team is going to operate the rest of the season with 2013 in mind. It
may be politically incorrect to say it but damn sure is correct to start
running the show this way.
1B – There’s no reason to sit Ike Davis down. In fact, the Mets still want to
concentrate on building up his strength after the horrendous ‘valley fever’
beginning. Target: 25 HRs.
2B – It will be tempting to call up
players like Josh Satin to play here, but the
more you play Daniel Murphy at second base, you
keep his name out there for AL trade bait.
SS – The Mets will do everything they
can to get Ruben Tejada enough at bats to
quality for one of the top ten hitters in the league. Jose who?
3B – Watch for much more playtime Justin Turner and Zach Lutz and
more rest for the face of the franchise, or, at least, the kind of the option
clause, David Wright.
LF – I guess you play Jordany Valdespin when you’re not playing Jason Bay and you just
CF – There simply is no reason to
play Andres Torres anymore. Bring up Fred Lewis,
rewarding him for a good AAA season, and platoon him with Scott Hairston.
RF – Who’s left (God, this is a fucking horrible outfield…)? That leaves the left-handed
Mike Baxter, who I’d like to see face lefties as
well as righties for the rest of the season.
C – It looks like the 2013 platoon
will be Josh Thole and Kelly
Shoppach. So I guess we just play them.
We’ll look at pitching tomorrow.
