Daily Mets Minors Report – 8-14-12

Date: 8-14-12

MLB –

R.I.P. – Johnny Pesky

Remember this name… Corby McCoy… signed out of Nicaragua by NYY

Twins minor league catcher Michael Quesada batted .234/.329/.313 in 64 at-bats for Rookie-level Elizabethton this season prior to testing positive for Methylhexaneamine. Minnesota selected him from Sierra (Calif.) JC in the 24th round of the 2010 draft… aren’t you supposed to hit better than this after you take this shit?

MLB - Mets:

Much less Mets chatter online… fans are shutting down.

AAA – Buffalo:

RHP Collin McHugh makes his 11th start of the season tonight for the Herd. In his last outing, the righty struck out eight against Syracuse but suffered the loss for the Herd. McHugh has worked six or more innings in five consecutive starts. The righty faced Pawtucket on July 15 and allowed three earned runs in six innings of a no-decision (6K).

Monday – Loss, 1-5

It was fun getting to watch a Buffalo game. One of the positive signs was the comfort ability Lucas Duda showed playing left field. He chased down a particular bullet that easily could have been a double… SP Collin McHugh pitched great, throwing many more nasty 11-6 curves than I have ever seen him throw in the past… but it was RP C.J. Nitkowski that totally defined nastiness with his sidearm curve. One looked like came in the zone behind the player.

On the down side, we might have seen the last time Pedro Beato is on national television. 6-ERs in last two games, 7-R.

AA-Binghamton:.

Night off…

A+ - St. Lucie:

The Mets received just six starts out of righty Jake deGrom during his first two pro seasons, but the former two-way standout at Stetson has made up significant ground this season to get back on track. The 2010 ninth-rounder missed all of ’11 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he jumped to high Class A for his start on Saturday after going 6-3, 2.51 in 15 starts for low Class A Savannah. DeGrom allowed only one hit in seven innings while striking out eight in his Florida State League debut. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/08/top-prospect-performers-over-the-weekend-aug-10-12/

Monday – night off

A – Savannah:

Monday – Win, 4-3

SP Michael Fulmer threw his usual QS: 5.0-IP, 1-ER, 4-H, 4-K, but 3-BB… ERA for season: 2.54.

Savannah hung on Chason Bradford, but T.J. Chism closed it out with his 17th save. T.J. will definitely close for St. Lucie in 2013.

Prospect CF Gilbert Gomez went 2-3, .271. Another prospect heading to St. Lucie in the spring.

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Short-season Brooklyn righty Hansel Robles has been just about untouchable in his past four New York-Penn League starts, allowing three runs in 28 innings while striking out 31, issuing zero walks and allowing 15 hits. He tossed eight shutout, one-hit frames against Vermont on Friday. The Mets signed Robles, who ranks third in the NYP in ERA (1.48) and strikeouts (51), as a 19-year-old out of the Dominican Republic in August 2008. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/08/top-prospect-performers-over-the-weekend-aug-10-12/

Brandon Nimmo with 7 multi-hit games in his last 9. Now hitting .273/.391/.432 with 18 2B, a 3B, 3 HR, & 30 BB in 48 NYPL games

Monday – doesn’t anyone play baseball anymore?

Rookie – Kingsport:

Ditto…
