Binghamton Mets starter Mark Cohoon took a no-hitter into the seventhinning and struck out a season-high ten Harrisburg Senators en route to his fifthcareer complete game shutout in a 5-0 win Friday night at Metro Bank Park. Itwas the B-Mets third straight win and pushed the club to within six games of aplayoff berth.

Cohoonshowed no signs of rust after both teams waited through a 49 minute rain delayto start the game. The southpaw cruised to open the contest, retiring the first11 he faced before issuing a two-out walk in the fourth.

TheB-Mets offense was slightly delayed in its support of the southpaw. They werekept in check for four innings by Harrisburg starter Ryan Perry. Binghamtonfinally broke through in the fifth. Jefry Marte led off the frame with a doubleand scored when Raul Reyes dumped a two-bagger into the right field corner.Dustin Martin chased Reyes home four batters later with a single to right.

Afterretiring eight more Senators in a row, Cohoon’s no-hit bid came to an end withone out in the seventh when Justin Bloxom sent a high pop up to shallow center.Wilfredo Tovar retreated from short and Raul Reyes raced in from center, butthe ball dropped to the grass for a double. Cohoon showed no signs of being phasedand retired the next two hitters to preserve the shutout. 

Binghamtonadded two more runs and chased Perry from the game in the seventh. Juan Centenostarted the rally with a double and scored when Dustin Martin bounced a tripleoff the center field wall. Jimmy Barthmaier took over for Perry and allowedMartin to score on Wilmer Flores’ single up the middle.

Cohooncruised through a perfect eighth inning and helped his own cause with an RBI inthe ninth, driving in Centeno with a single to left. After getting the first outin the ninth, the southpaw fell into a bit of trouble in the ninth, allowing asingle and hitting a batter. Cohoon bounced back to strike out Bloxom andinduced Jimmy Van Ostrand to fly out to center to end the game.

Itwas Cohoon’s fifth career complete game shutout and first since he collectedthree straight as a Savannah Sand Gnat (Low-A) in June 2010. The gem was thethird complete game shutout for a B-Met starting pitcher this season and secondnine innings in length.
