Collin McHugh named International League Pitcher of the Week

August 20, 2012 –The International League announced that Buffalo Bisons RHPCOLLIN MCHUGH has been named the IL Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 13-19.

Buffalo right-hander Collin McHugh was brilliant this week, allowing just one run in 12.2 innings of work for the Bisons against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

On Monday McHugh took the hill at home and turned in 5.2 innings of one-run baseball, but left with the score knotted 1-1 and did not factor into the decision. Then on Saturday McHugh got the ball for the "Futures at Fenway" matchup with Pawtucket at Boston's Fenway Park. McHugh was dominant on the big stage, scattering five hits over 7.0 shutout innings in the 2-0 Buffalo victory. It was the first win for McHugh in seven starts since the All-Star Break, despite the fact he owns a 2.70 ERA during that stretch.

25-year-old Collin McHugh is in his fifth season as a professional pitcher and his first at the Triple-A level. He began the 2012 season with Double-A Binghamton but was promoted in June after posting a 2.41 ERA through his first 12 starts. McHugh is a native of Covington, Georgia.

McHugh is the second member of the Bisons to be so honored this season, following OF Fred Lewis (July 9-15).

Mack or anyone:

Could you compare McHugh to Gee? Is he a viable middle-relief guy?
