Ken Davidoff is reporting that the
Mets are now considering trading Scott Hairston,
which would make a lot of sense. The Mets will never match in the off-season what
some other team is going to offer this guy and you have an
opportunity to add to your future here. If I remember correctly, I think
Detroit has showed some interest here, but there isn’t that much talent in the
system. One shot could be catcher Alex Avila (.265),
who backs up starter Gerald Laird (.291). The
problem is he hits on the left side. Another option could be one of three LHP
prospects, Casey Crosby, Drew Smyly (good luck
with this one), and Andrew Oliver. Smyly is a
lock for the LHSP rotation slot but the other two both have ++velocity with
little control. So far this season – Crosby: MLB: 9.49, AAA: 3.91… Oliver: AAA:
4.86, 99-K, 107.1-IP. Just thinking out loud.
The Bisons
I’m glad I got one more chance to
watch a Bisons game tonight. I follow every one of these teams every inning of
every game and I pretty much know what they have and what they don’t. Simply
put, this is a team of lightweight hitters that have the ability to produce a
couple of future major league utility players (Zach
Lutz, Josh Satin, Matt den Dekker) but nobody here is going to compete
someday for the MLB slugging percentage leader. IMO, include Lucas Duda in this, who seems to be to have peaked as
a future platooned corner outfielder, probably in Queens next year, and other
teams past that. You’ll get 15-20 home runs out of him, but there’s going to be
a lot of strikeouts, flyouts, and hold
your breath defensive plays through what career he produces. Every team has
someone with power just busting through the level they are playing at. Cory Vaughn and Aderlin
Rodriquez are showing signs of that in Lucy. Wilmer
Flores just about dominates AA. But Buffalo? No, there just isn’t anybody
here.
Sandy Alderson has a new one-liner. This is the one he used to Andy
McCullough when discussing a long-term contract for RA Dickey. Sure, we
all know the Mets will take the short road here, just like they will with David Wright, but there will come a day that other
teams will get a chance to get their mitts on one of the only pitchers in the
300-inning, 3-year, 3.00-ERA range. Forget his age. He can throw that shit
until he’s 45. Dickey has the inside chance of winning the CY Young award this
year which will just completely fuck with the intestines of Tampon. Alderson is
just shaking reporters off better than Paul Ryan and
life goes on during the 50th year of our beloved franchise. I’m
curious to see how Reese Kaplan’s post goes this
morning about trading Wright. I’m starting to get ready to jump on the bailout
train.
