Date: 8-10-12

MLB –

Houston promoted OF Fernando Martinez.

OF Carl Crawford cleared waivers.

MLB - Mets:

TC - "Losing is not fun. Losing makes it miserable to walk in the doors every morning, especially when you know you should be better. We know we should be better, and it's a frustrating experience. The guys are not happy about it. The mood in the clubhouse is not the same. Even though they try to make it the same, it's not. So today's win certainly lightens things up a little bit."

RA Dickey said he would not want to work on short rest unless it was beneficial to the team

AAA – Buffalo:

OF Matt den Dekker turned 25.

RHP Pedro Beato  gets the spot start for the Bisons tonight. In 22 relief appearances with the Herd this season, the righty is 4-3 with a 2.38ERA and 26 strikeouts in 34.0 innings of work. In seven games with the Mets earlier this season, Beato went 0-0 with a 10.38ERA in 4.1 innings of work. It will be Beato’s first start since 2009 with Double-A Bowie.

Friday – Loss, 4-10

AA-Binghamton:

Keith Goldstein

Wilmer Flores, 3B/2B, Mets (Double-A Binghamton): 3-for-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB, K. Despite offensive improvements, there are still questions about secondary skills and ultimate position; .274/.324/.421 in 44 Eastern League games.

LHP Mark Cohoon (6-8, 3.72) makes his 19th start of the season and second against the Harrisburg Senators. The southpaw lost his last decision to the Reading Phillies on August 5. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits over 5.2 innings. It was his first B-Mets loss in five starts, dating back to June 19. Cohoon took a no-decision against the Senators on May 5, allowing five runs on seven hits over six innings.

RHP Ryan Perry (1-2, 1.54) makes his 10th start of the year with Harrisburg. Perry started the season with the Syracuse Chiefs (WSH: AAA) before being promoted the Nationals in May. He went 1-0 with a 10.13 ERA in seven relief outings in the Major Leagues before returning to Syracuse in early June. He was sent down to Harrisburg in late June after going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 11 games in the International League. Perry tossed  seven shutout innings in a no-decision in his start against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on August 4. Perry has not allowed a run in his last 13.0 innings. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1st round (21st overall) in 2008 and traded to the Nationals for Colin Balester on 12/9/11. He has pitched in 156 games in the Major Leagues over four seasons.

Friday – Win, 5-0

A+ - St. Lucie:

RHP Adrian Rosario transferred from Binghamton (AA) to St. Lucie (High-A) (going the wrong way… I don’t expect him to be around next season…)

A – Savannah:

Friday:  Suspended game - Win, 3-2

C Cam Maron continues to hit above .300 (2-4, .302), a rare bird in the Mets nest. You know what is even rarer? Getting this guy to talk to you like you are visible.

Domingo Tapia picked up where Jim Fuller left this game the night before when it was suspended after one inning (6 IP, H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 6-1).

Nightcap – Win, 9-5

OF Vicente Lupo is 1st in the DSL in OBP (.497), SLG (.655), & ISO (.281). Also 2nd in HRPA (4.6%) and 5th in AVG (.357)
