Daily Mets Minors Report – 8-8-12

Date: 8-8-12

                                                            52 games to go…
MLB - Mets:

C Rob Johnson out because his hand is swollen after catching Matt Harvey. I love it!
Mets will not eat Jason Bay’s contract.

AAA – Buffalo:
RHP Collin McHugh  makes his 10th start with the Bisons and his first against the Chiefs. The Triple-A rookie has allowed three of fewer runs in seven consecutive starts. However, the righty has been snake-bit with just one victory in those seven outings. McHugh has left after six innings with leads of 4-0 and 4-2 in his last two outings but didn’t earn a victory.
OF Matt den Dekker clubbed his first professional grand slam in last night’s Game 2 win. The Triple-A rookie also singled in a run in Game 1 and now has 32RBI in only 50 games with the Bisons. den Dekker also has 20 extra-base hits since joining the Bisons on June 12, tied for the 10th most for all International League hitters during that time frame.
Despite going 1-3 last night, Josh Satin saw his International League-leading on-base percentage drop a point to .402. The mark is still two points better than Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s DH Jack Cust. Since the All-Star break, Satin is hitting .348 (23-66) with a .494 on-base percentage.
Tuesday – Lose, 3-4
C Mike Nickeas continues to rake at AAA – 2-3, 1-R, double, BB, .455.
One of the main things you want to see here is the mental strengthening of Lucas Duda. Tonight: 2-4, .262. Duda should be part of a LF platoon next year with Jason Bay that just may work.
The ‘newly-improved’ AAA verion of Robert Carson continues: 2.0-IP, 0-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 0.96.

AA-Binghamton:
P Brandon Moore was activated from the DL
Tuesday – doubleheader - Game 1 – Win, 9-8
2B David Havens (‘rally name’) – 1-1, 3-BB, 1.000-OBP, 9th-HR2-RBI
LF Dustin Martin continues to quietly return to some sort of secondary alternative to a future outfielder. Martin was a legitimate Mets prospect before he was traded in 2009 as part of the Luis Castillo deal. He played for three years at the AAA level for Minnesota, but never could hit above .270. The Mets picked back up the 28-year old earlier this year when he was released and tonight, he stats up as: 2-3, 3-R, 1-RBI, .286
Cory Mazzoni will forget this start quickly: 6.0-IP, 9-H, 5-ER, 3-K, 2-BB, 3.60.
Game 2 –
Things started out well for SP Gonzalez Germen and then came the 5th inning.

A+ - St. Lucie:
Tueday – Win, 9-1
A hell of a night for SP Rafael Montero, who threw 7.2 innings of no-hit ball. He was rightfully pulled for pitch count, which is the only thing that metters at this level. This looks like a very special pitcher folks. We’ll talk more about him later today.
Nine runs for Lucy… LF/CF Alonzo Harris 4-4, 2-R, 6th-HR, 3-RBI, .290… 3B Aderlin Rodriguez his his 21st HR of the season…

A – Savannah:
Tuesday - Night off…

A-Low – Brooklyn:
Tuesday – Win, 1-0
Outstanding pitching by SP Gabriel Ynoa (7.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 8-K, 0-BB, 2.45) and RP Paul Sewald (2.0-IP, 0.00).
Only run was 1B Jayce Boyd’s 2nd professional home run in the 4th.

Rookie – Kingsport:
Tuesday, Wow… 8-3 win…
Hitting star was RF Jorge Rivero: 4-5, 2-R, double, .313
