1. Well, the $64,000 question has been
asked (actually it was the $19,000.000 question). Jason
Bay will not be released and he will also not donate the last year of
his contract back to the team for an ownership share (I just made that up, but
it’s not a bad idea). There’s also considerable chatter that Lucas Duda will platoon with Bay for the 2013 season
in LF. Once again, another ‘not bad idea’. Look, if you have to pay Bay, than
sit him against righties and give that task to the free swinging Duda. You
might get a 30-HR, 85-RBI return here. One thing for sure… you’ll lead the team
in strikeouts.
2. Would someone please try and explain
to me why you keep a pitcher in a game after he just gave up four runs (4th
inning) and you’ve got a bases loaded situation? Yeah, I know, it’s only the fourth inning and
the bullpen isn’t exactly the best in baseball, but shouldn’t the call here to
at least be to swing? Does anyone have Jon Niese’s BA?
Oh never mind, 51 to go…
3. So who had a bigger bad day
yesterday, that German diver that scored a 0.0 in the Olympics or RP Elvin Ramirez, who found himself back with a one-way
to Buffalo. I’m not even sure they let him fly, opting to probably put him in
the baggage car on the Amtrak. Boy, did I jinx this dude up this season. I’m
sorry El. You deserved better than this.
4. What was the Bobby
Parnell incident all about? They bring him in the game and he starts
throwing nothing but ‘fastballs’ in the… err… 80s. There’s a trip to the mound
and, low and behold (origin: "Lo and behold." – Actually ‘Lo’ and
behold - a way to say, look at this! Lo is used in the Bible, when the angels
visit the shepherds to announce Jesus' birth "Lo, I bring you tidings of
great joy..." Behold" is used
more often in modern speech in the phrase, "a sight to behold." Lo and Behold is a way to emphasize via
exclamation that you should notice something, look now, it is important.[i])
the next pitch is back in the high 90’s. Was he pouting? There’s no pouting in
baseball?
5. I don’t normally do this, but this
tells everything about a pitcher you need to know more about – Paul Seward - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/53833/farm-report-draft-family-affair-for-sewalds?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
