2013 Draft-Notes - Greg Jacknewitz, Mitchell Garver, Nick Rumbelow, Stuff

Greg Jacknewitz, LHP/1B, Bishop Watterson HS, Class of 2013 - 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect. Projects as a pitcher at the next level. The southpaw throws form a high ¾ arm slot. Doesn’t require much effort to his delivery. Fastball sits 79-81 mph with some natural cut, but velocity should jump with easy arm action. Curveball sits 65-68 with sweeping 1/7 break. Changeup stays at 71-72 mph. He throws it near fastball arm speed with some fade. Shows the ability to change speeds and throw several pitches for strikes. At the plate, he starts with an open stance. Uses a long stride and tends to dive at the ball. Shows pull tendencies in his swing. pBR

Mitchell Garver, C, Hyannis Harbor Hawks (New Mexico) – Showed some hitting ability, bat speed and pop in bp… but didn’t have a good day at the plate. Adequate defender behind the plate. Actions, athleticism and receiving all okay, but no area of his defensive game stands out. Arm strength above average but mechanics mitigate that. Pop times mostly >2.00, but I did get a 1.9. BB

Q - If the draft were held today, would Michael Wacha be in the top 10?

A - No.

Q - Do you have a higher opinion of Ryan Stanek than you used to? At one point you saw him as a reliever in the long run; sounds like you like him better now.

A - Raised his arm slot slightly without losing any stuff. Makes a big difference in his potential to start.

Myrtle Beach Collegiate Summer League organizer seems to be holding out refunds to injured players… http://www2.wbtw.com/m/news/2012/aug/02/parents-want-answers-myrtle-beach-baseball-league--ar-4264595/
