I May Be Wrong, But… Buffalo Outfield, Yorvit Torrealba, Blake Forsythe, B-Mets Rotation, Buffalo Rotation

    1.    Kirk Nieuwenhuis played his first AAA game in quite a while, next to Fred Lewis and Lucas Duda. Look, I really don’t care if Lewis is hitting .700 (he’s actually hitting .295), there is no way that Matt den Dekker should be on the bench. Yes, he’s a centerfielder but so was 50% of the major leaguers now playing RF or LF in the majors. Nieuwenhuis, Duda, and den Dekker represent the best in the system and they can’t work out their problems not playing. No one in Buffalo cares about this team, the attendance is at an all-time low, and they aren’t going to be a Mets affiliate next year. Stop with all the AAAA bullshit and play Deck every day until he works his way out of this slump.

    2.    I saw that C Yorvit Torrealba was released by Texas. A scout told me once that Omar almost signed Torry; in fact, they literally were sitting across a table with a contract between them when Omar told him, in Spanish, that he would have to piss in a cup before he left the building. Torrealba got up, shook Omar’s hand, and walked out of the building. I don’t know if the story was true, but I hope Minaya, at least, washed his hands after that.

    3.    Speaking of catchers, I’m not going to waiver on my support for Blake Forsythe. I still believe this was a great early pick and I’m expecting him to make a big push this month to convince the powers to be that he should start Binghamton next spring. The Mets platoon this position at all minor league levels so no one ever develops properly. Right now, if I had to etch this in stone, Juan Centeno will be in Buffalo, Forsythe with the B-Mets, Kevin Plawecki in St. Lucie and Tomas Nido in Savannah. Odd men out (or subs) would be Cam Maron and Jeff Glenn).

    4.    Nothing has to change because Zack Wheeler was promoted to Buffalo. They can easily go back to a 5-man rotation using Cory Mazzoni, Darin Gorski, Greg Peavey, Mark Cohoon, and Gonzalez Germen. Next up if they want to go to a 6-man rotation: Angel Cuan.

5.    The real mess is in the Buffalo rotation, which is now 7-deep: Wheeler, Jenrry Mejia, Jeurys Familia, Garrett Olson, Dylan Owen, Chris Schwinden, and Collin McHugh. Me? I would keep Mejia in the rotation building up arm strength, shut down Familia until I figure out what to do with him in the winter, and release Olson, but that’s just me.
