RHP Zack Wheeler to make Bisons debut
Sunday, August 5 vs. Syracuse (1:05 p.m.)
Eastern League All-Star is Mets #1 Prospect

August 1, 2012 –The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP ZACK WHEELER will be promoted to the club to make his Triple-A and Buffalo debut on Sunday, August 5 against the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m. first pitch).

Wheeler, 22, has spent the entire 2012 season with the Binghamton Mets. In 19 starts with the B-Mets, the righty is 10-6 with a 3.26ERA and 117 strikeouts in 116.0 innings of work. Wheeler leads the Eastern League in strikeouts and ranks tied for second with his 10 victories. His 3.26ERA is the 10th best mark in the league.

Prior to the season, Wheeler was named the Mets’ #1 prospect byBaseball America. He was a mid-season Eastern League All-Star and also retired both batters he faced for Team USA at the 2012 All-Star Future’s Game in Kansas City. Earlier this season, Wheeler won six consecutive starts for Binghamton, April 29 – June 7, and threw a complete-game six-hit shutout on July 14 against Erie. In his last start on Tuesday, Wheeler struck out a season-high 11 batters in 6.2 innings of work to defeat Harrisburg.

The Mets acquired Wheeler on July 8, 2011 from the San Francisco Giants in exchange of outfielder Carlos Beltran. Wheeler was the Giants 1st round pick (6th overall) in the 2009 draft and was a 2011 California League All-Star while with San Francisco’s Class-A affiliate in San Jose.
