September 11th
The now first place Mets shutout the Expos, 4-0, as Gary
Gentry even his record to 11-11.
Gentry pitched a gem. The righty tossed a CG in his
whitewashing of Montreal, striking out a batter an inning. Hitting stars for
New York included Ken Boswell who drove in a run with a 5th inning
double, going 2-3, and Art Shamsky who went 1-3 with an RBI single in the 6th.
The Mets added a game to their lead in the NL East too.
Chicago fell to the Phillies. New York (85-77) were now up by 2 games over the
Northsiders. Meanwhile, in the NL West just 2.5 games separated five teams.
