Thursday night in game 2 of a split double header in
Washington, Gio Gonzalez allowed just 1 hit in 7 innings while striking out 12,
the Nationals blank the Mets 3-0. The
Mets only tallied two hits on the game.
Daniel Murphy singled in the 1st inning. Then in the 8th,
Curtis Granderson reached on an infield single and that was all the offense for
the Mets. Zach Wheeler started and
finished his 2014 with a loss. The Nationals scored three times of Wheeler in
the bottom of the 4th on a fielder’s choice by Tyler Moore, Wilson Ramos scored on a passed ball and
Wheeler hit Anthony Rendon to cap the scoring. Wheeler went 5 innings allowing
just 4 hits 3 runs (all earned) he walked 3 and struck out 7. He takes the loss
falling to 11-11 and finishing with a 3.54 era.
Gonzales set a career high with this 12 k’s and improves to 10-10. The
Mets drop 2 of 3 to the Nats on their final road trip of 2014 and are now 77-82
and finish 39-42 on the road. Tomorrow night the Mets start their final series
of the year a Citi Field against the Astros.
