Friday night at Citi Field, The Astros scored three runs in
the 6th inning off Carlos Torres, they go on to beat the Mets 3-1.
Jonathon Niese started for the Mets and was blanking Houston into the 6th
inning. Niese left with an accelerated heartbeat. Torres came on and gave up 3
runs to the Astros in the 6th on an RBI single by Jose Altuve, an
RBI double by Chris Carter and a RBI single by Matt Dominguez. The Mets had taken a 1-0 lead in the 4th
when Curtis Granderson continued his hot hitting with a solo homer, his 20th
on the season. Offensively, that was all for the Mets. Niese went 5 1/3 he
allowed 3 hits and struck out 4 before leaving the contest. Brad Peacock started for the Astros and
allowed just the 1 run in 4 1/3, so neither started figured in the
decision. Torres gets the loss falling
to 8-6. Kevin Chapman earned the win he
improves to 2-0. Chad Qualls pitched the
9th for his 19th save on the year. Erik Goeddel pitched 2 scoreless innings for
the Mets out of the pen. The Mets drop the first game of their last series of
the season. They stand at 77-83 overall; their home record is 38-41. Saturday night is game 161 on the season
Rafael Montero (1-3 4.38) goes for the
Mets, Samuel Deduno (2-6 4.66) goes for
Houston.
