Koosman blanks Bucs, 1-0 as Mets sweep second twinbill in three days
The Mets play their second doubleheader in three days against Pittsburgh. New York received its third straight CG shutout, this pitching gem came from the left arm of Jerry Koosman, who hurled a 1-0 blanking of the Pirates. He scattered 3 hits, while striking out 4 in his 14th win of the season. To top it off, Koosman also drove in the game’s only run with a 5th inning single, scoring Bobby Pfeil.

In the nightcap, they completed the sweep with another 1-0 win. Don Cardwell, with a save from Tug McGraw, continued the Mets streak of shuouts-now at four games and 46 innings. This was the second straight game where the pitcher drove in the only run. Cardwell’s RBI single scored Buddy Harrelson, who had doubled, from second.

New York (87-57) ran its winning streak to nine games and was now up by 2.5 over Chicago (85-60).
