Friday night in Flushing Juan Lagares’ RBI double broke a 3
all tie, the Mets beat the Nationals 4-3.
The Mets jumped off to a quick 3-0 start in the bottom of the first; the
red hot Eric Young Jr. singled to lead
off the game, Lagares was hit by a pitch
and Lucas Duda walked to load the base. That brough up Travis d’Arnaud who
lined a 3-2 pitch down the left field line clearing the bases to make it 3-0
off Gio Gonzales. Dillon Gee started for
the Mets and pitched well enough to win. The Nats made it a 3-2 game in the top
of the 3rd scoring a pair on RBI singles by Adam LaRoche and Wilson
Ramos. Anthony Rendon connected for a
solo homer (20) in the 5th to tie the game at 3. The Mets took the
lead for good in the bottom of the 5th , Eric Young Jr.
led off with an infield single, then Lagares doubled to left scoring
Young. Gee went 5 1/3
9 hits 3 runs (all earned) he walked
2 and struck out 4. Carlos Torres pitched an 1 2/3 scoreless, Jeurys
Familia pitched a scoreless 8th and Jenrry Mejia pitched the 9th
earning his 26th save. Offensively
Young went 2 for 4, Lagares went 2 for 3.
Young has now gone 7 for 11 in his last 3 games. Gee gets the win he improves to 7-7. Gonzales takes the loss falling to 8-10.
The Mets are now 37-36 at home and are 72-76 overall. Saturday night is game 3
of this 4 game set. Zach Wheeler (10-9
3.38) goes for the Mets, Doug Fister (13-6 2.53) goes for Washington.
