Sunday afternoon in Flushing, Jordan Zimmerman blanked the
Mets for 6 2/3, the Nationals beat the Mets 3-0. The Mets were blanked for the first time in
11 weeks. Jon Niese started for the Mets and the game was scoreless through 6
innings. In the 7th Ian
Desmond reached on an infield single. After being sacrificed to 2nd,
Wilson Ramos hit an opposite field two run homer, his 10th on the
year to make it 2-0. In the top of the 9th
Wilmer Flores dropped the ball attempting to tag David Espinosa in a run-down
allowing Ian Desmond to score the Nationals 3rd and final run. Niese
went 7 allowing 6 hits 2 runs (both earned) and struck out 7. He gets the loss
falling to 8-11. Zimmerman gets the win
improving to 12-5. Drew Storen pitched the 9th for this 5th
save. Offensively the Mets scattered 8
hits in the shutout, Flores led the way going 2 for 4. The Mets have now dropped 13 of the last 14
to the Nationals at Citi Field. They drop to 37-38 at home and 72-78 on the
year overall. They are 4-3 on this
current 10 game home-stand. Monday the Marlins come to town for three. Jacob
deGrom (8-6 2.62) goes for the Mets, Jarred
Cosart (13-9 3.70) goes for Miami.
