Saturday night at Citi Field the Nats dominance over the
Mets continues as they beat the Mets and Zach Wheeler by the score of 10-3. Wheeler started for the Mets and only lasted
into the 5th inning. The Nats
scored 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th and scored 3 times in
the 5th to knock Wheeler out of the box. Ian Desmond had the big hit in the 5th,
a 2 run single off Wheeler to make it 6-0.
In the bottom of the 5th the Mets made it 6-2 on a two run
homer by Wilmer Flores, his 4th on the year. In the 6th Jayson Werths’s fielder’s
choice scored Denard Span to make it 7-2.
In the bottom of the frame Curtis Granderson’s infield hit scored Juan
Lagares with the Mets final run. The Nats final tallies came in the 8th
and 9th. In the 8th they got an on a RBI double by
Desmond. In the 9th Span
connected off Met rookie southpaw Dario Alvarez for a two run homer, his 5th
on the year. Wheeler went 4 allowed 7 hits 6 runs (all earned) he walked 2 and
struck out 4. He falls to 10-10 on the
season. Doug Fister pitched 6 solid innings for the Nats improving to 14-6.
Desmond was the hitting star for Washington going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, Bryce
Harper hit a 2 run homer in the 2nd his 13th on the year.
Anthony Rendon remained sizzling hot going 4 for 5. Lagares added 3 hits in the Met loss. The Nationals have now won 13 of their last
14 from the Mets at Citi Field. The Mets are now .500 at home standing at 37-37
Overall they are 72-77. Sunday afternoon the Mets look to clinch a series
split. Jonathon Niese (8-10 3.59) goes
for the Mets, Jordan Zimmerman (11-5
2.93) goes for Washington.
