Tom Brennan - METS MINORS STRIKEOUT EXTREMES
I noticed 2 strikeout-related phenomena yesterday in the minors, one amazing and one sad.
AMAZING:
Tyler Bashlor fanned 5 in 2 perfect innings for St Lucie last night. In his last 10 games, spanning 10.1 innings, he has fanned TWENTY THREE GUYS, while allowing 1 earned run. 23 out of 31 outs by strikeout....pretty sick.
Time to promote him? I certainly think so. Obviously too good for High A ball.
SAD:
Speedy Champ Stuart (18 of 20 steals this year) fanned 3 more times for Binghamton last night. In his last 49 at bats, he has fanned an astounding 24 times while managing just 5 hits, dropping him to .200. In 303 AA career at bats, 120 Ks.
A sad mismatch of extreme speed and extreme strikeout rate, it certainly appears.
