Mets shutout Phils at Shea |
In front of over 20,000 on Ladies Day at Shea the Mets
blanked the Phillies, 3-0. Don Cardwell and Tug McGraw combined on the
six-hitter-McGraw tossing a three inning save. Offensively, McGraw drove in a
run and Jerry Grote homered for the sixth time in 1969. Those were just a couple
of the photo ops for the fans In attendance as it was also Camera Day.
At Wrigley, the Cubs (84-55) were trounced by Pittsburgh
13-4, so the Mets (79-57) gained a game on the division leaders and were now
just 3.5 back with a pair of games vs. Chicago at Shea looming on the horizon.
