Saturday Afternoon at the Great American Ballpark, Chris
Heisey’s pinch hit homer in the bottom of the 7th inning broke a
1-all tie. The Reds beat the Mets 2-1.
The game was a pitcher’s duel between Dillon Gee and Johnny Cueto. The
Mets drew first blood in the top of the 2nd on a double by Travis d’Arnaud
and an RBI single by Dilson Herrera. The Reds tied the game in the 6th
on a solo homerun to centerfield by Todd Fraizer, his 2nd homer in 2
days and his 25th on the year. Hiesey hit the game winning in the 7th
off Gee. It was his 8th on the year.
Gee went 7 allowing 7 hits 2 runs (both earned) and both on the long ball.
He walked 1 and struck out 6. Gee takes the loss falling to 6-7. Cueto notched
his 17th win. Jumbo Dias and
Aroldis Chapman provided the heat mowing down the Mets in the 8th
and 9th. In the 9th the Mets for a moment had 2nd
and 3rd with 1 out on a double steal by Eric Young Jr and Herrera,
but on the replay Young was called out for coming off third. Chapman k’d Eric Campbell to notch his 30th
save. d’Arnaud continues to be red hot
going 2 for 4 on the day raising his average to .246. Dana Eveland pitched a
scoreless inning of relief. The Mets 3
game winning streak is over. They fall to 67-75 on the year and 34-40 on the
road. Sunday is the final game of the
series. Zach Wheeler (9-9 3.45) goes for the Mets, Mat Latos (5-4 3.46) goes for the Reds.
