#35 Nick Dumesnil
OF California
Baptist HS (CA)
Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 45 |
Field: 50 | Overall: 50
Dumesnil came out of California high school powerhouse
Huntington Beach and then headed to California Baptist for college ball. After
playing sparingly as a freshman, he burst on the scene as a sophomore in 2024,
with a .362/.440/.702 line and 19 homers. He kept swinging a hot bat as a Cape
Cod League All-Star, hitting .311 and leading the circuit in steals (26), to
set the stage for him to easily become the highest-drafted Lancers player ever.
Strong and athletic, the 6-foot-2 Dumesnil has shown the
ability to hit, and do so with power from the right side of the plate. He has
shown the ability to drive the ball to all fields and absolutely punishes
fastballs. He doesn’t strike out or walk all that much, but there are some
concerns about just how dynamic his swing is; he’ll have to keep working on his
ability to recognize spin as there’s a fair amount of swing-and-miss against
breaking stuff. He’s not a fluid runner but has enough speed and aggressiveness
to swipe bases.
Dumesnil’s speed does help him cover ground in the outfield
and he’s shown he can be solid at all three spots defensively. Some feel he can
play center long-term, but others feel he’s best suited for a corner, with left
being a better option because of his fringy arm strength. It’ll be his bat that
gets him taken well ahead of the previously highest-drafted Cal Baptist player
-- right-hander Tyson Miller, a fourth-rounder back in 2016.

No. 20. Milwaukee Brewers: Nick Dumesnil, OF, California
Baptist Baseball
Dumesnil slips in our mock draft and falls into the hands of
the Brewers.
Baseball America has him going four spots higher, but he
falls to No. 38 in MLB’s mock draft.
Dumesnil led the Cape Cod League in doubles and steals and
slashed .311/.378/.489. He hit 19 home runs in the college season and already
is considered the greatest everyday player in Cal Baptist history.

MLB 2025 Mock Draft 2.0: Predictions for Every 1st-Round Pick
26. Philadelphia Phillies: OF Nick Dumesnil, Cal Baptist
Dumesnil has a strong, athletic 6'2", 210-pound frame
and profiles as a potential 20/20 player in center field. He hit .362/.440/.702
with 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 45 RBI in 61 games last spring, then proved
he can handle top-tier competition with an .866 OPS and 26 steals in 36 games
in the Cape Cod League.

21. Nick Dumesnil – OF
HT/WT: 6’2/210 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Cal Baptist | Age:
21.3
After lighting the WAC on fire and earning first-team all-WAC
honors, Dumesnil balled out with Brewster on the Cape, slashing .311/.378/.489
with sixteen extra-base hits.
As a result, Dumesnil is now firmly a Day 1 prospect for 2025
and profiles as one of the best mid-major bats in the whole class. There’s
physicality in his 6’2, 210-pound frame and he has an extremely robust toolset.
We’ll start at the plate, where Dumesnil’s bat speed and
power stand out at first glance. It’s a simple operation with little wasted
movements and a subtle toe-tap/weight shift that triggers the swing, followed
by extremely quick hands and robust bat speed.
Dumesnil’s highly aggressive nature doesn’t hamper his pure
bat-to-ball skills a ton and he likes to punish the baseball to all fields,
including hammering the gaps and showing off his plus speed. He does have some
warts with spin and scouts want to see the aggression simmer down, but this is
a robust offensive profile.
In the field, Dumesnil has gotten chances in center field and
right field, the former of which is his likely home. His speed allows him to
cover plenty of ground and he’s already an advanced route-runner with a solid
glove. There’s first-round upside here.

Baseball America @BaseballAmerica
Nick Dumesnil is one of the higher upside college bats in
this year’s draft.
He showed flashes across a limited sample as a freshman, but
exploded last year to the tune of a .362/.440/.702 slash line
He's one of the mid-major prospects to watch

2021 California Workout Camp Session 2
Nicholas Dumesnil is a 2022 OF/2B with a 6-0 170 lb. frame
from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Huntington Beach. He showed good speed
with a 6.94 second sixty. A primary outfielder with a strong athletic build. In
the outfield he works through the ball cleanly fielding it out front, the arm
action is long and fluid through the back as he does nice job of getting on top
of the ball and keeping his throws down and on a line with average carry.
Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base getting some bat tilt into his
load as he creates good separation with a simple leg lift trigger, he worked
the middle of the field to the pull side hard on a line with decent impact
skills and solid bat speed. Very good student.
