#39 Wehiwa Aloy
SS Arkansas
20/years old
6' 2" 200
Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 55 |
Field: 50 | Overall: 50
Aloy went from unheralded Hawaiian recruit to Western
Athletic Conference freshman of the year at Sacramento State in 2022, then
transferred to Arkansas. His OPS dropped from 1.089 to .841 while facing
tougher competition, but he did lead the Razorbacks with 14 homers and then
finished third in the Cape Cod League with eight in just 21 games. The gap
between his ceiling and floor is higher than most of the top college prospects
in this Draft.
Aloy's power is notable for a legitimate middle infielder as
he has plus raw juice that plays to all fields but mostly to his pull side. His
combination of bat speed and strength produces impressive exit velocities,
though he'd be better off letting his pop come naturally rather than employing
an aggressive approach. His right-handed swing gets too uphill and he chases
too much, leaving him vulnerable to breaking pitches and leading to strikeouts
and weak contact.
Despite smooth actions, reliable hands and solid arm
strength, Aloy isn't a lock to remain at shortstop. He gets the job done in
college but he has fringy speed and may not have enough range at the next
level. He profiles best as an offensive second baseman and also could fit at
third base.

No. 29 Arizona Diamondbacks: Wehiwa Aloy, SS, Arkansas
Baseball
Awarded this pick after the Astros signed Christian Walker,
some have Aloy going 10 spots higher. Others say outside of the first round.
A big freshman season in the WAC prompted him to transfer to
one of the best programs in college baseball, Arkansas, and he found the SEC
much more difficult. But he regained his prospect chops with a strong Cape Cod
season.

Player To Know
Arkansas starting shortstop Wehiwa Aloy established himself
as one of college baseball’s premier middle infielders when he put together an
eye-catching freshman campaign at Sacramento State in 2023. The first-round
hopeful followed up his breakout inaugural season with a strong sophomore year
at Arkansas in 2024, hitting .270/.355/.485 with 14 home runs and a career-best
56 RBI en route to second-team all-SEC honors. Aloy will return to shortstop in
2025 with what Arkansas hopes to be an improved feel for the position.

26. Wehiwa Aloy – SS
HT/WT: 6’2/200 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Arkansas | Age:
21.5
The WAC Freshman of the Year in 2023, Aloy took his talents
from Sacramento State to Arkansas, where he manned the “six” for the Razorbacks
and put up respectable numbers in his first SEC campaign, slashing
.270/.355/.485 with 14 home runs.
Aloy is a hyper-aggressive hitter with serious thump to his
pull side and a ton of strength throughout his frame. His power is his calling
card, which grades out as above-average to plus thanks to incredible bat speed
and rotational force in his swing.
He can handle his own on offerings in the inner third, though
Aloy’s swing gets long on pitches on the outer half and he’ll expand the zone
often. His biggest bugaboo is spin, as he struggles to pick it up and will
whiff at a high rate.
It’s not too dissimilar to former Razorback Casey Martin or
former Longhorn Trey Faltine.
Aloy has the tools to stick at shortstop, but given the
physicality in his frame, there’s a chance that he’ll move to his left or right
when all is said and done. He’ll need to tone down the aggressiveness in 2025
if he’s to live up to his upside.

11. Oakland Athletics: SS Wehiwa Aloy, Arkansas
Aloy hit .376/.427/.662 with 14 home runs as a freshman at
Sacramento State before transferring to Arkansas ahead of his sophomore
campaign.
His production dropped a bit with the uptick in competition
in the SEC, but he still hit .270/.355/.485 while matching his home run total
with 14 long balls.
A strong run in the Cape Cod League this summer that included
a .309/.352/.642 line and eight home runs in 21 games has moved Aloy squarely
into the top-10 conversation.

10. Wehiwa Aloy, SS, Arkansas
Aloy earned Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year
accolades at Sacramento State in 2022 before transferring to Arkansas and
hitting .270/.355/.485 last season. His combination of bat speed and strength
produces high exit velocities and power to all fields, though he needs to cut
down on his tendency to chase pitches out of the strike zone. He's a capable
shortstop but could outgrow the position.
