This past weekend saw the two combatants from last year's NLCS go at it for the first time in 2025. The Mets-Dodgers series at Citi Field was not a disappointment. Sometimes these series are overhyped and don't deliver, but in this one we saw two good teams go at it with everything they had.
How about a 13 inning thriller to start the series? Both teams had their chances to win it earlier, but after both teams had pretty much exhausted their bullpens, it was the Dodgers that came away with the victory.
The next two nights were highlighted by excellent pitching. Both David Peterson and Kodai Senga put up some pretty impressive innings against a formidable lineup. Many would say that the Dodgers are not at full strength given the injuries that have devastated their pitching staff, but the lineup was full of top players and both Peterson and Senga handled them well. We also saw some excellent innings from Diaz, Stanek, Kranick, and Garrett so the Mets' pitching continues to be their headline.
But this is a team game, so we saw more than just pitching from the Mets to take the last two games. I am sure most of you will agree with me that Juan Soto had a little more spring in his step. He made some solid running catches in the outfield and ran the bases well. His bat is showing signs of heating up which can really help the team.
Alonso had some key hits including a momentum turning blast in the bottom of the first that negated an Ohtani blast earlier. Pete had been slumping a bit, but he seems to have gotten it back with a two hit night on Saturday and then Sunday's blast.
Brett Baty hit well and continued to compete to remain on this club. He just seems to be swinging the bat with more confidence now. He seems more relaxed at the plate and his selection of pitches to swing at has improved immensely. His defense has probably been the loudest statement as he has really looked like he belongs at the hot corner.
Sunday's game also showcased some solid defense by the Mets. From Tyrone Taylor's catch-and-throw double play to kill the first inning threat to some nifty double plays in the infield, the Mets have finally flashed some leather after worrying fans with subpar play in the Yankee series.
Now the White Sox and Rockies bring their underwhelming clubs to Citi Field. I hope that the adrenaline from the Yankees and Dodgers series does not subside, because the Mets need to step on the gas in the next six games to reclaim ground lost in their recent funk. With the excellent pitching they have received, all it will take is some timely hitting like they had against LA to come out on top.
Let's Go Mets!

Time to hit better as a team. One third of the season is gone. 13th in runs, 15th in batting average. I expected this to be a top 3 or top 5 offensive team. It's warm out. Two weak teams are up next. Break out the bats. Let's go.
Statement game last night now we have to not fade against the dregs
Last 15 days, they are 25th in batting average and 28th in runs. Cubs have scored 90 runs over their last 13 games, the Mets just 38 over their last 13. Come on.
That is unacceptable. Time to explode. How about 90 runs over the Mets' next 13 games?
HE HAS A NAME!!!!!!
I liked Soto’s overall performance both with a bat and glove
IMO
he's comin round
Vito here. Mets lead the league in ERA. Have allowed the least homers (by a lot) DON’T move the fences in.
Move them in and the Dodgers would have hit a 3 run home run last night to left
One mo' time................ It's almost Ronny Mauricio time. He should be brought up and be the everyday DH; start Vientos at 3B and Baty at 2B. McNeil becomes a late defensive replacement at 2B with Baty moving over the 3B and Vientos going to the bench. Acuna goes to Syracuse for a few weeks to get a prep course on playing CF, every day.
Pretty dramatic shift for an unproven player. We don't know that Mauricio can return to the prospect he was. A week or two in Syracuse is not enough data.
