BENGE IS ON A BINGE
The Mets' top pick, Carson Benge, has truly started to sizzle for High A Brooklyn, in his first full season.
He was hitting just .200 thru April 22 in a very cold early April, BUT what has he done in his last few warmer weeks?
20 for 49, 10 walks, 3 HRs, 11 RBIs.
Sizzling. Oh, I already said that.
I think the Mets drafted a future MLB starting outfielder in Benge.
Maybe a future All Star.
I guess with a bat like that, we'll never see him pitch and show off his 96 MPH heater, much like we will never see Nolan McLean hit Kingman shots anymore. Benge is too good a hitter, McLean too good a pitcher.
Benge may be their best prospect hitter at this point.
AJ Ewing, though, might beg to differ.
In 27 games between St Lucie and Brooklyn, the 20 year old is slashing at .369/.463/.583.
And, unbelievably, already 21 of 24 in steals.
I think the Mets drafted a future MLB starting outfielder in Ewing.
Maybe a future All Star.
Those two have me excited for the future. How about you?
SAUL GARCIA KILLING IT EARLY IN BROOKLYN'S PEN
The 21 year old righty is 1-0, 3 saves, 0.00, 7.2 IP, 16 Ks, 1 hit allowed.
But come on, Saul, is that all you've got?
Just kidding, what a great season start.
You have to do something about those 9 walks, though. He has walked 130 and fanned 265 in 196 career innings. Bret Saberhagen he is not.
JETT HAS CUT DOWN ON THE K'S
In his injury-riddled 2024 and very early in 2025, his Ks were a bit high, but in his last 8 games? Just 2 Ks. A real sign of progress. Career .404 OBP.
Jaylen Palmer by contrast was a K machine in the Mets system for many years, and now in his 7th pro season is in AA for another organization. Has the change of scenery helped? No.
44 Ks in 28 games. But he somehow has a decent .316 OBP.
Career 784 Ks in 2,116 PAs.
BRIAN METOYER IS STILL TRYING AT AGE 28
Drafted in the 40th round in 2018, he missed 2020 due to COVID, and then most of 2022 and all of 2023 and 2024 due to injury. But he is back in Brooklyn in 2025, relieving nicely so far. Hey, you never know.
Like Saul Garcia, control has been his enemy (when injuries have not been, of course). Brian has walked 4 and hit 3 batters in 5.2 IP.
Is his walk-on song WILD THING?
If you are a pitcher with a live arm, your chances of making the majors are always greater than zero.

Ya know...
This site has a lot of great writers
Tom and I aren't them.
We are analysts
Our job is to state the facts, Jack.
Oh, we offer up opinions but only regarding facts first served
Speaking of facts...
Of the 13 starting pitchers with the lowest OPS to right hand hitters...
11 are LHP
INCLUDING THE TOP SIX
Even facts can quirk
Oh yeah
Tom was right
I moved my fences in
Far less lawn to mow
Vito. Mets pitchers don’t allow homers, gotta love those fences
Mack, I saw your comment on the ball Suzuki hit. I was out and thus did not see it, but my brother texted me that Lindor lost a 2nd homer to the park yesterday. Me? I’d love to see Alonso, Soto, and Lindor combine for 140 homers…but not in Citi Field as currently fenced. Just call the outfield Green Acres. Pitchers say it’s the place to be.
I’ll tell my analyst you said that.
Pitchers love Green Acres. Except the Cubs starter.
Tong just pitched 6.2 innings of a 7 inning perfect game for Binghamton. 13 strikeouts for Tong. First perfect games in the history of the Mets organization
They pulled him with one out to go from a perfect game???
