Mets IL Update

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6382683/2025/05/26/mets-dodgers-kodai-senga/

Brandon Nimmo was available off the bench Sunday night. While he is still day-to-day with a stiff neck, his hope late Sunday was to be in the lineup Monday afternoon.

Paul Blackburn’s last rehab start will be Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse. This will be Blackburn’s seventh rehab outing, a reflection less of his need for a prolonged onramp and more of the club postponing a decision on its rotation. The Mets will need a sixth starter the first week of June, and you can pencil Blackburn in to start the series opener in Los Angeles a week from Monday.

Frankie Montas started his rehab assignment with Brooklyn on Saturday. Montas is likely to need close to the full 30 days for his rehab assignment before he’s ready.

Sean Manaea threw a bullpen session Sunday, and his next step is to face hitters in a live BP setting. Like Montas, Manaea likely needs the full month for a rehab assignment, a July ETA. But if the Mets need them in the majors sooner than expected, their rehabs might be shorter than the full 30 days.

Jose Siri is working through his running progression. Siri can run at about 80 percent of his full strength. He’s been hitting in the cage and occasionally on the field, and so once he’s running closer to his norm, a rehab assignment would be next.

He allowed a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani then nothing else, despite lots of traffic.

Senga leads the National League with a 1.46 ERA.

#26 Mets prospect per MLP Pipeline

ETA – I expect him to end the season pitching for AAA-Syracuse. However, he could easily be blocked from the 2026 Mets due to all the current contracted pitchers as well as other prospects ahead of him that should graduate first.

Daniel Wexler         @WexlerRules

Dom Hamel since moving to the bullpen:

6.2 innings

3 hits

1 er

5 walks

6 k’s

         Mack –

Right now, Syracuse is short, at least, one starter. I hope they leave Dom in the pen. I have called for this for a long time and I think the Mets got a real future pen ace here.

There are plenty of starters (cough) Tong (cough) Wenninger that can take a shuttle early Monday morning.

David Peterson. DAWG

    Mack –

I don’t know why I keep saying this guy has to prove that he is a major piece of this rotation. He is.

    Peterson is a lefty. Check.

Peterson is still going through the ARB process in 2026, so he will around next season. Check.

Peterson is below 30 years old. Another check.

So… the Mets REALLY have four solid starters for next season…Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, and Peterson.

He does reach free agency prior to the 2027 season, but one must believe that the team can develop, at least, one more solid starter from RHP Christian Scott, RHP Blade Tidwell, LHP Brandon Waddell, RHP Nolan McLean, RHP Brandon Sproat, LHP Zach Thornton, RHP Jonah Tong, and RHP Jack Wenninger.

Me? Always go with what you got if it is producing. If Peterson continues to pitch this way throughout next season, you could be sending away another Zach Wheeler.

If he doesn’t, there seems to be a good chance the Mets will develop one of the above-mentioned starters.

Peterson is the real deal. That hip surgery last year saved his career

Peterson is MY ACE.

Wenninger apparently while in college topped out at 96 but mostly hovered in low 90s. May he uptick? Hope so

Apparently, Peterson also realized he needed to pitch to contact more, making him more efficient and effective.

July ETA for Manaea? He will be well rested for the playoffs.

I am glad Blackburn’s getting one more minors start. Let’s not rush to upset the apple cart.

Peterson has earned his spot
We don’t have a lefty … this group need to keep the metrics and evaluate if he should be signed sooner than later… that’s what the job is… scout your players better than others do
