4. New York Mets (2.9)

Record: 29-19

Last Power Ranking: 2

Do you realize this is the best pitching staff in baseball? Or, at least, it’s the one with the lowest collective ERA by quite a bit. Sean Manaea is one of seven Mets pitchers on the 60-day IL, yet the Mets are the only team in baseball with a sub-3.00 ERA. Only one other team (the Royals) is within a quarter of a run. The Mets entered this week’s series against the Red Sox with 12 pitchers who’d thrown at least 10 innings this season, and none had an ERA over 4.00. Kodai Senga has been tremendous in his return from injury, Clay Holmes has successfully transitioned from relieving to starting, and 35-year-old Huascar Brazoban has been an elite setup man. Griffin Canning, basically dumped by both the Angels and Braves, has a 2.47 ERA through nine starts. That staff’s been a difference maker in keeping the Mets comfortably in our Top 5.

A.J. Ewing is making some of the best swing decisions in MiLB this season. He backs it up with plus speed and solid contact, making him one of the highest rising prospects in the Mets system this season!

Brooklyn Cyclones                         @BKCyclones

A.J. Ewing has been named the SAL Player of the Week.

He hit .500 (9-18), with five runs scored, six stolen bases, three RBI, .609 OBP and 1.331 OPS for the week.

It's A.J.'s world - we're all just living in it

Jacob Misiorowski - MIL

No prospect has been getting as much praise as Jacob Misiorowski over the past few weeks, and for good reason. The Brewers hard tossing righty is mowing through batters with a 31.4 K% while showcasing better command and incredible stuff throughout his arsenal, including a better feel for his changeup. His fastball sits in the upper 90s and he has dialed it up to 103 MPH on a whim. This ability to reach back and hit triple digits, when necessary, shows how much he has grown as a pitcher. His fastball also exhibits exceptional traits ranging from its above average ride from his low 5.3’ slot as well as its shallow -4.1° VAA. It has returned an elite 30.9 Whiff% while mitigating damage overall. His tendency to locate it high in the zone makes it extremely tricky for both LHH and RHH to barrel up.

The goodness doesn’t stop there with Misiorowski as he tosses a pair of breaking balls that are comfortable plus offerings. His slider is his go-to weapon against RHH where its 93 MPH velocity and slight cutting action helps it run away and live in the outer third. His curveball may be even better than his fastball thanks to its mid 80s velocity and sharp two-plane action. Its combination of depth and sweep makes it the perfect weapon to put away batters after he gets ahead with his fastball. He rounds out his arsenal with a changeup that he is still getting used to throwing in games. His feel for the pitch looks solid as he has done a commendable job at keeping low and away against LHH.

The biggest development for Misiorowski has been his improved strike throwing. His command, or lack thereof, held back his production and led to putrid BB% throughout his pro career. This season he lowered his walk rate to 10.1 BB% thanks to a solid 64.6 Strike%, which has allowed his stupendous stuff speak for itself.

Misiorowski is one of the most electric pitching prospects in baseball and has taken all the right steps to stick as a starter. Once he gets the call, he has the stuff to be a dominant force from the get go.

Pitchers are not perfect. They should be able to recover from a rough start just like Senga did. The Mets' lineup is more than capable of scoring enough runs to keep him in it. They just have to get out of this RISP funk. Would help if they had a more positive attitude from Juan Soto.

I think this team will be looking behind them at Atlanta after the Dodgers series

Great to see Brooklyn Thunder.

Senga proved he's the Mets ace. His fork ball wasn't ghosting and his slider wasn't sliding but he toughed it out without his good stuff, and in his last couple innings the ghost reappeared. Gutty performance

Estarling Mercado is a. Interesting guy. 113 MPH plays. He’s consistently hit near the bottom of that lineup, but a .318 BA says that maybe he’s one of the ones. A.J. Ewing, three weeks into his stay in Brooklyn, is just making A+ look like a joke. Hitting everything and hitting it hard, taking his walks, stealing every available base, playing CF every day. Reimer is arguably as good a pure hitter at the level, with more power, but he seems to be barely holding on defensively at 3B, and may in fact be a 1B/DH type. Useful, but not as valuable. Ewing is super young (20), but if he’s still doing his thing in three weeks, he could find himself playing CF in Binghamton a lot sooner than expected.
