May 23, 2011:

Mets owner Fred Wilpon is quoted criticizing Jose Reyes, David Wright and Carlos Beltran in a New Yorker profile, claiming Wright was a “good kid ... a very good player. Not a superstar.” He also called the@Mets a “shi—y  team.”

Mets Analytics                               @MetsAnalytics

Is Ronny Mauricio back?

Super-small sample size alert, but in his short AAA stint, Mauricio's signature exit velocity, barrels (and pulled barrels!) were right at the elite of the elite.

Mauricio swings a ton, at pitches both in and out of the zone, but tends to avoid

Cyclones RHP Noah Hall has quietly been NASTY. The league is hitting .183 against him (2nd best mark in the organization). Hall has allowed more than 1 ER only once over 8 starts. Hall is also #2 in GB%, #3 in GB/FB%

I hyped him all spring in how he looked in backfields but he got off to a slow start. Now settling in?

Assuming he's done, final line on Mets P prospect Nolan Whiffle Ball McLean tonight in AAA

6 inn    2 H    2 R (1 ER)    2 BB    6 K    60 of 93 pitches for strikes

I continue to feel his overall pitch command has been massive for his development and could honestly make him the #1 P prospect

Thomas Nestico                             @TJStats

I echo Ernest Dove here: Nolan McLean is the Mets #1 Pitching Prospect

His combination of stuff, command, versatility, and athleticism makes him incredibly dynamic. That sweeper is nuts!

Daniel Wexler                    @WexlerRules

RH RP Chandler Marsh has moved up to #2 in the organization (20 or more innings) in FIP (2.29), #6 in era (2.28), #5 in K/9 (12.19) and #2 in K/BB (9.33)

Woah, Marsh's K/BB is the 11th best mark in all of minor league baseball

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6373938/2025/05/22/fantasy-baseball-2025-player-outlook-bat-speed/

Brandon Nimmo changed his approach to try for more power, and the results are … confusing. The bat speed is down, the hard-hit and barrel rates are the highest of his career, and the results have been poor, but the x-stats are great. Hold onto him — odds are he’ll have a nice, productive summer.

Gage Wood

RHP

Arkansas

DOB:              12-15-2003

Height:          6-0

Weight:        205

Scouting Report

Wood returned from a shoulder impingement to show easy first-round stuff, striking out 30 of 69 batters (43.5 percent) through six pitch-limited starts. He’s 95-98 with ride, has a hammer 12/6 curveball, and a sharp downward-breaking slider as well. He doesn’t pitch down in the zone, though, and as a result he’s given up way more hard contact than he should.

Michael Baron                                @michaelgbaron

Everywhere I look now its Juan Soto this, Juan Soto that, and it's all negative.

Dude, just hit three home runs this weekend and shut this valve off!

The data under the hood for Mets outfielder Drew Gilbert is quite encouraging

Neil Allen's biggest save is when he saved the franchise by being part of the trade that brought Keith Hernandez to NY.

Good point

If Wilpon thought David Wright wasn't a superstar, he should never have owned a baseball team. Wright's career was damaged eventually by his back, but before that, Wilpon had Wright playing in a pitcher's park in Shea, then built the Citi Cavern dimensions park, one of the stupidest owner decisions in the history of all of sports, neutralizing Wright's hitting prowess.

Wilpon made money because he invested well, but he was a poor owner.

Marsh, McLean, Vargas, Hernandez, Benge, Gilbert, Mauricio - just 7 more players in what might be the best Mets minors group of players at one time ever.

Tom Brennan said...

And Daiverson, too - make that 8 more studs.

Zack Wheeler has pitched insanely well since Wilpon let him get away. 65-33, 2.90? Nice move, WiIlie Wonka Wilpon.
