#38 Chase Shores
RHP Louisiana
State

6' 8" 245

Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 |
Control: 45 | Overall: 50
Shores was one of the biggest and hardest-throwing members of
the 2022 high school class, standing 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds and pushing his
fastball up to 98 mph. He priced himself out of the Draft and headed to
Louisiana State, where he made an immediate impression as a midweek starter and
weekend reliever before blowing out his elbow and having Tommy John surgery in
April 2023. He missed the Tigers' run to a College World Series championship
and sat out 2024 but showed that he had regained his velocity during fall
practice.
Shores hit 100 mph before he got hurt and worked at 94-99 mph
this fall, and the armside run he creates on his fastball makes it even harder
to barrel. His low-80s slider has good depth but lacks consistency. He actually
trusted his fading upper-80s changeup more than his slider as a freshman.
More athletic than most players his size, Shores should be
able to keep his long limbs in sync and repeat his low-three-quarters delivery
as he gains more experience. Before he got hurt, he relied more on chases than
precise location. If he can refine his secondary pitches and command, he'll
vault into the first round.

MLB 2025 Mock Draft 2.0: Predictions for Every 1st-Round Pick
27. Cleveland Guardians: RHP Chase Shores, LSU
A highly regarded prep prospect who made it to LSU because of
a high bonus asking price, Shores posted a 1.96 ERA in 18.1 innings as a
freshman before blowing out his arm and missing the remainder of the 2023
season and all of the 2024 season recovering. He returned to the mound during
fall practice and was back up to 99 mph with his fastball, which could pave the
way for a breakthrough spring. The 6'8", 245-pound flame thrower is a
project of sorts, but Cleveland knows how to develop pitching.

39. Chase Shores – RHP
HT/WT: 6’8/245 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Louisiana State |
Age: 21.1
As a freshman, Shores had the looks of a potential top-ten
pick in this class, but an injury led to Tommy John surgery and he spent the
2024 season rehabbing. At 6’8, 245 pounds, Shores is incredibly physical and
lanky, displaying quality body control and a ton of arm speed.
The fastball was his calling card in 2023 and it’s easy to
see why. Shores’ heater flirted with triple digits regularly, reaching as high
as 102 MPH.
His command has taken a step forward from the prep days and
the pitch can be an absolute demon in the zone, overpowering hitters with a ton
of running life out of the hand. He relied upon it heavily as his secondaries
weren’t exceptionally sharp.
The slider is into the mid-80s now with gradual bite and
sweeping action, while the change-up has solid fade through the zone in the
same velocity band. His draft stock will hinge on his ability to stay healthy
this spring and prove himself in a starting role. If he can, Shores is every
bit of a Day 1 prospect.

39. Yankees: Chase Shores, RHP, Louisiana State (No. 38)
Shores is extremely physical (6-foot-8, 245 pounds) and
throws extremely hard, but he missed all of last season following Tommy John
surgery in April 2023.

DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -
85 Chase Shores
RHP Lee Midland, TX
Despite his size, Shores has extreme athleticism on the mound
with fluidity, rhythym and a feel for pitching. Projects to start, especially
as he continues to get stronger. Shores is already up to 97 with steep angle
and he attacks the zone. Shores offers a short curveball that has taken
definitive strides in the last calendar year, and now features a changeup he
can spot to LHH with arm speed and some separation. Shores is a high-watch and
is opening eyes.
8-5-21 - Prospects Live
Chase Shores
As they say, everything's bigger in Texas. This includes the
pitchers. At 6’8”, 240 pounds, Chase Shores has a large, imposing frame on the
mound and he’s become a very intriguing prospect in this class. At his height,
there’s plenty of moving parts in his delivery, but he’s still able to throw a
high-spin fastball at 91-96 MPH and topped out at 97 MPH with late life from a
low three-quarters slot. He’s got a 1-to-7 curveball in the high-70’s that is
his primary secondary that he went to frequently in game. He did flash a good
change-up with late diving action, but he only threw one in his outing at 84
MPH. He’s far more comfortable throwing strikes in the wind-up than in the
stretch, which will need to be ironed out as time progresses. However, the
stuff is loud and he’s an interesting follow for 2022.
